About the 2009 Festival
The 2009 festival was a 14 day feast of circus, theatre, dance, music, puppetry and sculpture in 40 settings around Leicester city and throughout Leicestershire and Rutland - Ashby to Oakham!
We were proud to offer some of the best UK companies and artists producing work for children, and were particularly excited to host Children's Laureate Michael Rosen (Nonsense). The audiences had the opportunity to sample some fantastic international work from Canada (The Ugly Ducklings' Dancing Cabaret), Denmark (Beowolf), Hungary (Girl in a Blue Dress) and a fascinating co-production from Korea, Japan and UK companies (Looking for Yoghurt). We also presented a brilliant interactive trip around the Cosmos with Nottingham-based Dragonbreath Theatre at Curve Theatre.
Some regular fixtures reappeared, such as our popular family sculpture weekend (although somewhat dampened by the weather especially on the Sunday), and puppetry in the lovely setting of The Guildhall (3 Pigs). And many toddlers and their parents enjoyed the fun of the Messy Marquee and Play Forest at Babyfest at De Montfort Hall.
We brought performances to you in local parks, libraries, leisure centres and village halls. We also presented 5 shows in primary schools around Leicester and Leicestershire.
Wherever you come across The Spark, we hope you and your children enjoy yourselves, and we welcome your feedback on this year's events.
