Braunstone Park Playspace
"Snakey Path" - designed by Alison Davies, Groundworks Architects.
The play space is finished!
We were delighted to be able to launch the new play space on Saturday 17th July in conjunction with B-Inspired who laid on games, music, story-telling and refreshments. Although the weather was "changeable", we were pleased that many of you turned out to witness the official opening of the Snakey Path by Paige Murray.
We were also pleased to welcome Liz Kendall, MP for Leicester West, who took time out of her busy schedule to join us and say a few words.
Thanks must also go to Brian Stafford for running the project for Leicester City Council and to Jasia McArdle, project manager for The Spark Festival.
Made in Braunstone – the coloured roundels
A special feature of the path is the coloured roundals set into the floor, designed by Bhajan Hunjan with input from local schoolchildren and families, including Imperial Avenue Infants and Braunstone Primary.
What shapes and creatures can you spot in the pattern? What games can you think of to play on the shapes?
More work to do
Now the path is complete, there will still be more work to be done planting over the summer and autumn. We look forward to the path becoming part of the landscape.
Spark on the Park
Picnics, storytelling and Big Art came to the Park during the Festival this year. Unfortunately the weather was against us for the story-telling day, but we had more luck with some lovely Playtime Picnics, and creative fun with The City Gallery.
More pictures of the events, the launch and of the site can be found at our Flickr Group Snakey Path- Braunstone. We hope you will have the time to visit, tell us what you think and send us your pictures of activities on the path.
